New amenities, including kayaks, pedal boats, and laser tag, are being added to the park before July 4th with many additional improvements taking place throughout the summer and fall.
The Jenkins Organization has acquired the Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resort location in Pelahatchie in one of the real estate company’s first forays into the campground industry.
“We love the dynamics and the potential growth of the campground industry, and we’re attracted to the Jellystone Park franchise network because they have built a brand based on family fun,” said Ricky Jenkins, president of The Jenkins Organization of Houston, Texas.
Although The Jenkins Organization just closed escrow on the Jellystone Park location in mid-May, the company has already started making improvements to the Pelahatchie park, which has its own lake for fishing and other water activities.
“We plan to add a jumping pillow, laser tag, kayaking, and pedal boats in time for the 4th of July weekend, and we have additional improvements planned right after that,” Jenkins said, noting that aqua trikes — bicycles that float on water — and standup paddleboards will be added as soon as possible this summer.
Other improvements in the works include renovating the park’s splashpad and water slide; improving the beach area with more sand and 10 additional rentable cabanas; adding heating and air conditioning to the bathhouses; upgrading the park’s rental cabins with new furnishings; increasing the number of pet-friendly cabins and adding a new three bedroom lodge as a pet-friendly unit; and improving the landscaping throughout the park.
The Jenkins Organization also plans to convert an existing cabin into a Bear Cave for enhanced Yogi Bear character interactions and converting the existing party room to a recreation room with shuffleboard, air hockey, foosball, and other games.
This fall, the Jenkins Organization plans to remodel the swimming pool area.
Other amenities currently available at the park include a miniature golf course; a Gaga ball pit; an outdoor movie theater; sand volleyball and basketball courts; a playground; and a Cartoon Cafe.
Jellystone Park locations, of course, are famous for providing fun, family activities and theme weekends that include everything from crafts and games to wagon rides. Birthday parties with the bears and daily appearances by Yogi Bear are also very popular.
Upcoming theme weekends include a chocolate weekend July 12-14 with an Oreo eating contest and chocolate slide and a Luau Weekend July 19-21 with a pool party and luau on the beach on Saturday night. October will feature Trail of Terror events every weekend and on Halloween itself with a magic pumpkin patch; costume and campsite decorating contests; trick or treating and a haunted trail for kids.
The Jellystone Park location in Pelahatchie, Mississippi currently features 136 RV and tent sites as well as 42 cabins and two lodges that each sleep 12.
