The weeklong event called “AMC Black Picture Showcase Celebrating Juneteenth,” features a range of culturally significant films returning to theaters on the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

Throughout the week, guests can enjoy a collection of classic, contemporary and culturally relevant, black-led films for $5.

According to the movie theater chain, the event is a result of “many substantial and systemic changes” at the company as a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. The company said the event is also part of one of many ongoing initiatives to celebrate Black excellence in film and amplify Black voices.

“This is a proud and historic moment for AMC, that could not have happened without the influence of our African American associates who used their voices to underscore the importance of honoring Juneteenth as a bedrock of American history,” Adam Aron, CEO and President of AMC Theatres, said in a release. “This opportunity is a celebration of the impact and accomplishments of African Americans in cinema. It is nothing less than a privilege for AMC to showcase their extraordinary talent.”

Showtimes vary by location at participating AMC theaters nationwide. The “AMC Black Picture Showcase Celebrating Juneteenth” lineup features seven films, celebrated in three categories: Black Changemakers, Black Cinema and Black Joy.

In the New Orleans area, the participating locations include the AMC Elmwood Palace 20 and AMC Westbank Palace 16.
