Fall events and festivals guide for 2019

It's ~fall y'all~! It may still be hot as a tamale outside, but that doesn't stop the fun fall events and festivities from happening! Here is a list of events and festivals going on this year! We will constantly be updating this list, but let us know if we missed your favorite fall event!

OCTOBER 2 - 14

160th Mississippi State Fair

Join the Mississippi Fair Commission and the Department of Agriculture and Commerce for the 160th Mississippi State Fair! The fair will run from Wednesday, October 2nd until Monday, October 14th.

Advance tickets are currently available at the Coliseum Ticket Office on the South Side of the Coliseum. They can be purchased until 5 pm on Wednesday, October 2nd.

OCTOBER 2 - 14

ICE DOME at the Fair

The ‘Ice Dome’ will be open daily, and times will coincide alongside with the fair ride times.

Construction on the rink will begin in late September to be ready for the opening of the fair. Magic Ice USA will provide over 500 pairs of skates and the admission fee will be $10.00 per person.

“It was a tremendous privilege to bring ‘Christmas on Ice’ to Madison from 2012-2014. We had 202,000 people join us,” said executive director of the Mississippi Fair Commission, Steve Hutton. “Now, we will have the coolest event at the fair available for all 600,000 fair-goers!”

OCTOBER 10

Canton Fall Flea Market

Take advantage of excellent shopping opportunities at the Flea Market as well as Canton’s surrounding merchants. The Canton Flea Market features:

OCTOBER 9-12, 16-19, 23-26

MS Ag Museum’s Pumpkin Adventure

Join the Ag Museum on October 9-12, 16-19 and 23-26 during the hours:

  • Weekdays:     9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.   
  • Saturdays:     10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

This event is $8 per person and free for kids under 2.

“The Museum’s Pumpkin Adventure will include the following: a hay ride around the museum grounds and Small Town, Mississippi; a delicious, complementary snack of cookies and milk, a self-guided tour of the Heritage Center Gallery; and a small pumpkin of choice to take home. The General Store will be open for visitors to shop for souvenirs and enjoy an old fashioned Coca-Cola in a glass bottle.”

OCTOBER 12

BBQ on the Boulevard

Gates will open at noon for event festivities at the Clinton Plaza shopping center and the official tasting will begin at 2:00 pm. “This is a great family-friendly event filled with good food, live music, and children’s activities.”

OCTOBER 17, 18 & 19

Greenville Delta Hot Tamale Festival

Their website shares,“The Delta Hot Tamale Festival is a fun-filled three-day event that celebrates local and regional artists, musicians, and tamale makers as well as some of the South’s most influential chefs and writers.”

OCTOBER 18, 19 & 20

Great Mississippi River Balloon Race aka Natchez Balloon Festival

We aren’t blowing hot air when we say, this event is one you won’t want to miss out on! Along with awesome hot-air balloons, there will be food, kids activities and live music! Here is the live music line up:

Spooktacular with McClain

Starting at 5 pm join McClain for a spooky themed buffet dinner and a night full of fun with a safari tour making a stop at a haunted house!

Join Visiting Artist Sam King on Saturdays, with workshops from 11:00 am – 1:00 pmThis program is included in general admission and museum membership, and is supported in part by funding from the Mississippi Arts Commission, a state agency, with funding, in part, from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Junior League of Jackson puts on the holiday shopping affair with shopping, dining, spectacular events and more!

PhUn Day

Experience all the “PhUn” at MCM for PhUn Day from 10:00 am -2:00 pm with special guest, Dr. Michael Ryan, Associate Professor of Physiology and Biophysics and Director of Graduate Studies in Physiology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC), along with other physiology students. 

This program is included with general admission or museum membership.

Magic Monday

Start your week with fun! MCM will be open for special holiday Mondays from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm for extra hours of inspiration! 

Magic Mondays also include a special Food Lab program at 3:30 pm.
